Football in Finland archive

The seventh round of the Cup was (mostly) played last night, and Warkaus JK, Tampere United, TP-47 and VPS all advanced into the quarter finals. No upsets apart from Jaro’s loss in Tornio, although whether that strictly counts as an ‘upset’ is open to question. TPS v Haka and KuPS v HJK will be played on the 9th.

TamU’s game was all over very early on, with three quick goals in the first half hour. Henri Myntti got one of them, and Viikingit just couldn’t deal with his height. I can’t wait to see them play like this against Buducnost and then, potentially, Artmedia Bratislava.

The crowd was just over a thousand, causing one hack to remark that ‘this stadium is too small for the Finnish Cup’. Why on earth do they need to play games like this at Ratina? There was a decent turn out from Viikingit, and the atmosphere could have been very good at a smaller ground. Last night it felt like watching a training session, indeed the Levski coach provided more atmosphere at their press conference and training session last year.
