There’s an advert in today’s HBL offering a free pair of tickets to Honka v IFK Mariehamn for anyone who presents a HBL card at the HBL offices. That is, anyone who subscribes to the paper. It’s an extraordinary offer, and I hope it is successful.
this follows a meeting a few weeks ago at which the law was laid down: no more inflated crowd figures. Honka in particular have suffered from the directive that attendances be vaguely related to how many people turn up, with the VPS game drawing just 1,709 people.
Accounting practices are still not uniform – haka count 70% of their season ticket holders, regardless of how many attend, while TamU only count people inside the ground – but the crowd figures announced have been lower than usual. The last round of games had only one game with more than 2,000 people there. But then, if the people going are enjoying it, what does it matter?
