It has been a relatively quiet day on the transfer front as the window slammed shut. The usual frantic madness of late shopping, panic buys and drama has died a death in the midst of the current global economic downturn, and the financial incompetence characteristic of football clubs.
Business has not been as quiet elsewhere as it has been in Scandinavia today.
The major deal of the day saw Martin Jorgensen return home to Denmark to join his boyhood club AGF Aarhus.
Jorgensen has left Italy after almost 13 years in Serie A. Danish international Jorgensen began life in Italy at Udinese, before moving on to Fiorentina in 2004. He leaves the Viola for an undisclosed fee in order to return to Aarhus.
The 34 year old was rarely used during his last year in Florence despite being a fan favourite. He had to settle for a place on the bench and his agent had muted that a move was a possibility. Having completed a move home ,the 93 times capped midfielder will be hoping to add more silverware to his collection as the only trophy he has won to date is the Danish Cup which he won in 1996 with Aarhus.
Fiorentina will miss his presence, in an official statement the club paid tribute to his character “The president, ownership and all of ACF Fiorentina say goodbye with affection. We thank Martin for the professionalism he demonstrated in these five years with the Viola. We wish him good luck on his new adventure”.
Finnish international Toni Kallio has extended his loan spell at Championship side Sheffield United. Kallio originally joined the Blades from Fulham in November and made two appearances. He will be hoping he can get more playing time under his belt as Kevin Blackwell`s side struggle on towards their brush with the playoffs.
GAIS star Wanderson is on his way out of Sweden. The Brazilian striker, who was joint top scorer in the 2009 Allsvenskan season has undergone a medical at Dutch side Feyenoord. The signing is expected to be announced shortly.
Reading have given Danish goalkeeper Mikkel Anderson their backing to extend his loan deal at Bristol Rovers. This will be the 21 year old`s fifth loan spell since joining Reading in 2007 from AB.
Jonathan Johansson was offered a contract by two clubs, Greenock Morton and an unnamed German club. The Finnish international striker who recently left Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone has since turned down a move to the Scottish First Division side.
