Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen is delighted having made his Debut for Denmark on Wednesday. Eriksen who was a late call up to the side, entered the proceedings in the 57 th minute, as the World Cup qualifiers went down 2-1 in Austria.
The former Odense star has gained well deserved praise for his performances in the Eredivisie having made his Ajax debut in a one all draw with Nac Breda in mid Janaury.
His performances In both the Eredivisie and Europa league catapulted him into the eye of Danish manager Morten Olsen who wass eager to see him line out against Austria.
Speaking before the game ,Olsen Proclaimed “We have known about the exception qualities of Christian for a couple of years already. He is our man of the future “ .
Eriksen was voted Danish u17 talent of the year in 2008 and has since gone on to bigger and better things. After three years in the Odense youth set up he joined the Dutch giants for a fee believed to be close to £1 million. Since then his stock has rose and he quickly came through the Ajax youth ranks. After making his debut for the Amsterdam side, Eriksen outlined his ambition to keep a permanent position in the first team. He also stated his desire to play for his country, something which has since come through. Speaking after his debut , Eriksen said “ I know Morten Olsen is an admirer of my style of play but it s important to keep my feet on the ground. Nevertheless, playing for Denmark will be great”.
The 18 year old star replaced Daniel Jensen as the Danes searched for an equaliser that never came. He was beaming with pride after the match despite the defeat to the European minnows , “Things are going incredibly fast at the moment. I initially wanted to make it into Denmark under-21s by the end of the year and now I’ve already made my debut for the senior side. I’m absolutely delighted and will give my jersey a prominent place at home.”
Coinciding with his call up, Eriksen has given Ajax his word that he will stay on with them and sign a contract until 2014. The move is best for both parties as potential suitors hover around the midfield star. Eriksen however wants to remain in Holland “I`m very happy at Ajax and really want to stay here. I`m greatful to Martin Jol for giving me the chance to play and i can see myself really developing here”.
The news comes as Spanish giants Barcelona are the latest side to be linked with the star.
