Denmark vs Ireland predictions

The Republic of Ireland are travelling to Denmark then to take on the Danes in Copenhagen this Saturday 13th November as they go head to head in the first leg of their European World Cup qualifying play-off. Kick off is at 19:45hrs UK time and is being played at the Parken Stadium. If you’re not going to be at the game then you can watch it live on both RTE 2 and Sky Sports Football. RTE’s coverage starts at 19:25hrs, while on Sky it begins at 19:00hrs. Before the second-leg next Tuesday evening in Ireland.

Obviously the main man for the Danes is Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen and once again he’ll be looking to continue his great scoring record. Hopefully he can put a couple of goals in against Martin O’Neill’s Irish men and with them now having a few injuries in their squad he has every chance to do that. The original squad is listed below but since then James McCarthy has picked up an injury and he is ruled out, that goes along with forward Seán Maguire who definitely misses both legs after a hamstring injury. Centre-half Richard Keogh will also miss out after he limped off with a knock last weekend. The biggest blow though is captain David Meyler missing through suspension.

Goalkeepers: Randolph, Westwood, Elliot, Doyle

Defenders: Christie, Doherty, McShane, Keogh, Duffy, Clark, O’Shea, K Long, Ward

Midfielders: McGeady, Horgan, Browne, Whelan, Hourihane, Arter, McCarthy, Brady, Hendrick, O’Kane, Meyler, Hoolahan, O’Dowda, Hayes, McClean

Forwards: S Long, Murphy, McGoldrick, Maguire, Hogan, O’Brien

Denmark coach Age Hareida has his own injuries to deal with as Henrik Dalsgaard has been officially ruled out. Both Andreas Bjelland and Nicolai Jorgensen are doubtful too while skipper Simon Kjaer limped off injured last Saturday. Hareida originally named a 23-man squad for both games and the squad is listed below with the injured players still listed. Thankfully striker Nicolai Jorgensen is in the squad after the 26-year-old recovered from the injury that kept him out of the group games against Montenegro and Romania.

Goalkeepers: Schmeichel, Rønnow, Lossl

Defenders: Bjelland, Christensen, Dalsgaard, Vestergaard, Larsen, Jørgensen, Ankersen, Kjær

Midfielders: Lerager, Schone, Eriksen, Jensen, Sisto, Delaney, Kvist

Forwards: Cornelius, Bendtner, Jorgensen, Fischer, Poulsen

As for predictions, I honestly Denmark will get a narrow win in the first leg on Saturday, overall I’m not too sure. It is a very hard one to call. I’m going to say 1-0 to the Danes and then we’ll just have to see ahead of the second leg on Tuesday 14th November at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
