Well.... Baxter's a decent coach and has a wide knowledge. I'm not sure if his experience is analogous to that of a successful Old Firm manager, but he'll definitely have some advice for Lennon. What kind of arrangement this turns into over time is an open question, espcially given this week's reports that the FA have already decided not to renew his contract after the 2012 qualifiers.

The press here in scotland have made such a big deal out of this. Lennon needs help and Baxter would have helped no doubt, even if he could just tell us how to win a god damn game away from Celtic Park in Europe he'd have been worth tapping into.

Good post Egan! You mentioned that Duarte Cartaxo Tammilehto is a Brazilian-Finn, but somehow I have always thought that he is partly of Portuguese origin and via dirty Facebook stalking I found out that his hometown is Cascais, which is a coastal town near Lisbon. I also noticed that e.g. Transfermarkt insists that he holds Brazilian passport. So, I just wanted to ask whether you have some first-hand information with regards to his roots and can you confirm that he is really Brazilian (and not Portuguese) or are you also relying on Transfermarkt?

Hi, i like the article.
Except one thing is slightly off. I don't think you can compare Irish domestic football, with Faroese football.
Considering the population of the Faroe Islands, attendances are very good. Yes there is a strong interest in English football, but many of them still follow the vodafonedeildin. I've also met the odd person who only really follows international football and not the domestic league, but that's rare. If the League of Ireland was as popular with the Irish as the Vodafonedeildin is with the Faroese people, the League of Ireland would be very strong indeed.
Some Villages only have a tiny population, yet many people turn up to watch the matches. Torshavn has 3 clubs in the top flight and a population of around 16,000, but it's not uncommon for 1000 people to watch a match at the Gundadular. That's huge considering the population.
Anyway, it says you have 48 other posts about Nordic football, so i'll check them out also. Thanks for reading.

Lately he has been known as a commentator, but it is likely that he will return to coaching a local top team sooner than later, after all there is no "Dancing with the stars" every year.

A likeable guy, but as usual the fans have found a lot of negative features about him, " too defense-minded, too offensive, too experienced squad, too expensive, uses too many young players etc."

To start with;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Armstrong

"Keith Thomas Armstrong[1] (born 11 October 1957) is a former footballer who played in the Football League for Sunderland, Newport County and Scunthorpe United,[2] and in Finland for a number of clubs. Born in England, Armstrong became a naturalised Finn in the early 1990s,[3] and enjoyed a long and successful coaching career in Finland with Rovaniemen Palloseura, TP-Seinäjoki, FC Haka and most recently HJK Helsinki. Armstrong is one of the most successful football managers in the Finnish league, having won five Veikkausliiga championships, two Finnish Cups, and two Manager of the Year awards.

Career

Armstrong was born in Corbridge, Northumberland.[1] He began his football career as an apprentice with Sunderland, making his debut in the Second Division on 4 October 1977 as a substitute in a 1–1 draw at home to Cardiff City. He played regularly at the end of the 1977–78 season, and during the following season spent time on loan to Newport County and Scunthorpe United before being released.[2][4] He joined Newcastle United, but was promptly loaned out to the Finnish club Oulun Palloseura (OPS).[5] He played with OPS for two years, before moving to Koparit in Kuopio. Subsequently, he played in nine different clubs around Finland, appearing in 179 league matches, scoring 60 goals, and winning three championships (with OPS in 1979 and 1980 and with Kuusysi in 1984).

In 1993, at the age of 35, he retired from playing professional football and started out as the manager of his then club Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS). For the 1995 season, he moved to Seinäjoki and took the local club, TP-Seinäjoki into the Veikkausliiga. In 1997, he was offered a post at FC Haka, which he accepted, getting the club promoted from the second tier and winning three league championships in a row with the Valkeakoski team.[5] He received the Manager of the Year award in 2000, after Haka's second subsequent title.

In late 2001, he was signed by HJK, propelling the team to a league championship in 2002 and a league and cup double in 2003. In 2004, however, the club finished in mid-table.[5] In 2006 Armstrong received his second Manager of the Year award and led HJK to second place in the league. He was sacked in September 2007.[3]

He also works for Finnish television as a football pundit and studio commentator and is part of Finland manager Stuart Baxter's staff, working as Scout.[3]

So I finally have the time and means to watch a live Veikkausliiga game (Tampere United-VPS) and happened on the halftime show. Saw that one of the commentators was a fella by the name of Keith Armstrong. Looked him up and damn if this English guy hasn't been in Finland forever and is a legend. Maybe it's my virgin ear but his Finnish sounded pretty good. Usually the English are inept at learning a foreign language but not this guy, let alone a difficult one like Finnish.

I know I'm fairly new to Finnish soccer so please forgive the ignorance, but can you expound a little more on Armstrong and how he was as a player and coach?

Not really are WooThemes aesthetically revitalizing, but they are made to provide great person conversation and continue in order to modern website design trends.
